IDEAS' Mission

Israel is a vibrant, diverse, democratic country of almost 7.5 million citizens, one quarter of whom immigrated from over 80 countries and 20% of whom are Arab.  Israelis are Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Druze; they are fervently religious, casually traditional and passionately secular; they speak Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, English and Amharic; they are white, black and every shade in between; they are scientists and entrepreneurs, businessmen and farmers, artists and musicians, students and homemakers; they are straight, gay and undecided; they are free to vote, speak their minds and observe their religions, regardless of gender, ethnicity or faith.

Yet most of the world knows very little about Israel – a melting pot of traditions and religions that continues to be fed with new peoples and ideas.  Most of the world hears only about Israeli-Arab discord or religious extremism.  Most of the world does not have the opportunity to learn how similar Israelis are to themselves.

Our mission is to change that.

Our mission is to create topical films that illustrate the vitality of Israel and Israelis, portraying the passions, accomplishments, challenges and dilemmas that they face – as does any society that is open and democratic.  By widely disseminating a variety of educational documentaries about Israel, we aim to increase people’s understanding of Israel, appreciation for what Israelis contribute to the world, and compassion for this pluralistic society and nation.
